I have a test environment setup with a couple of PCs running ESX 5.0. I installed the vSphere appliance to manage them and created a dvSwitch. I can add hosts to the dvSwitch and bind guest NICs to it and everything is fine. If I shut it all down, however, when I bring it back up I get the following error whenever trying to add a host or a guest NIC back to the dvSwitch: "vDS operation failed on host 192.168.1.31, An error occurred during host configuration. got (vim.fault.PlatformConfigFault) exception". I shutdown the vSphere appliance from inside the guest OS, then shut down the host using the vSphere client on my PC. Nothing was shut off suddenly, but I get this. I get it on different hardware, and it happens every time I have to power something off. The only way I've found to fix it is to delete the vSphere appliance and run the restore defaults command on the host, then re-import and configure the appliance, and then re-import all my guests. Its kind of a gigantic hassle. Any ideas? Any specific details needed? Let me know please. FYI my vSphere appliance is 192.168.1.30 and the hosts are 192.168.1.31 and 192.168.1.32.
Thanks!
