Can RDP to Win7 VM but no Console "Starting Windows" screen.

Very odd problem I'm having. Setup is ESXi 5.0 running a Win7 VM. The VM is a P2V that was performed off a dell laptop. After the P2V was complete everything was running fine, we continue to update/modify/configure our company's software on the VM, console worked, Remote Desktop worked. Last night I started setting things to their final production configuration. I increased the hard drive (thin provisioned) to 450GB, increased CPU core count and RAM all in one swoop. I also installed VMware tools, which went through without a hitch. I noticed that the video memory was set to only 8mb but I didn't want to mess with that so I left it as is. After doing all this, I rebooted the VM (as required by the VMware tools installation) and the machine rebooted but only go to the "Starting Windows" screen with the pulsing windows icon. I noticed I could ping the machine and after maybe 2 minutes I tried to RDP to it and it works, yet the console is still stuck at the same screen (?!?!?!?) I haven't tried uninstalling VMware tools yet to see if console starts working but that is counter-intuitive as I need vmware tools anyhow. Also worth noting is that I was using remote desktop when I performed the install of the vmware tools. If anyone has any guidline links on troubleshooting vmware console I would be glad to go through those as well. Thanks!
