VMware starter - Which version

Hi,

We are a small company using 3 main computers which we want to use as VMs.

- 1 SBS 2008 server (12GB memory)

- 1 Win2008 R2 server for web apps, mysql, Jira and Confluence (4GB memory)

- 1 Win8 computer used as a continues build computer (4GB memory)

We like to install this on a new computer (Dell PowerEdge R720 with 32GB memory).

In the future there maybe will be a second server which is runnings VMs (as backup)

Which version should we use?

There is a free version which is limited to 32GB memory.

Can we use that one and what is the disadvantage of using this version?

Payed version like VMware vSphere Essentials kit or vSphere standard?

It looks like the Essentials kit is something for us.

It's a lot cheaper than the vSphere standard version, why?

Maximum 3 hosts which each 2 processors. Thats fine for us.

Is there no limit for the number of Vms on the host or the maximum memory in the hosts?

Thanks for your help,

Egbert
