new files and directories gone after reboot

Hi all,

I have access to my esxi 5.1 via ssh.

When I login and create some directories and files e.g. at "/" or at /etc, they are obviously not persistent and are gone after reboot.

Can somone confirm my observation and is there a method to make the files persistent for reboot?

I need to store a directory (and one file) below /etc/ssh/.
