Hi All,
I'm currently going throug an alignment exercise and need to re-align >1000 misaligned VMDK's - this is approximately 40TB of data. My thoughts at the moment are to buy 2x Fusion IO cards to use as fast local storage for this task ... something high-level like this;
- Storage vMotion the misaligned VM's from NAS / SAN onto fast local storage (example, Fusion IO)
- V2V using VMWare Converter 5.0 (automated with PowerShell scripts)
- Re-configure the new, now correctly aligned VM's to use the old MAC address etc. (again automated using PowerShell)
- Storage vMotion the new VM's back onto NAS / SAN
- Repeat for each VM
I will flesh out the process more, but for now I have a few questions regarding the local flash storage;
- Has anyone used Fusion-IO cards in any of your ESXi 5.0 hosts?
- If yes, what was your impression and are there any known snags to look out for?
- Do you have any recommendations of which card to use?
- Should I be considering any competitors, and why?
Any pointers or opinions welcome.
Thanks,
Jon
