5.1 web client CPU setting on a VM

I have ESXi 5.1 running on a Dell r720 – 2 quad core processors with 5.1 Enterprise Licenses

The requirements for the VM CPUs on a dev platform are:

Vm1 – 2 cores

Vm2 - 2 cores

Vm3 – 4 cores

Vm4 – 8 cores

I don’t usually alter the CPU settings when creating VMs (leave at 1 at let VMware handle the loading).

But, the dev team asked for these.

I created the VMs but 5.1 is different than 4.1 vSphere client…

For example when creating Vm4, I selected 4 CPUs and 2 (cores per) socket.

After creation, the summary screen is showing the CPUs as 4 but I do not see a count for total number of cores which should be 8?  Is there a place to check if the VM has total number of cores?

I may set CPUs to 1 and enable Hot Add and only and only change if needed .

Comments?

thanks
