VMware Tools Performance Issues

Hello,

We have a VMware Cluster with 11 ESXi 5.1 nodes. In our infrastructure, we have vCenter with Update Manager plugin installed. Two weeks ago we migrated 90 VMs from VMware Cluster 4.1 to the new one (5.1). We import the VMs, upgrade virtual Hardware and Tools with Update Manager. Everything worked fine.

These VMs have Windows Server 2003 SP2 and Citrix.

After users started to log on, they told us that performance of these machines was terrible. When these VMs were in VMware Cluster 4.1 performance was correct. We reviewed them and we found a very high level use of CPU (90 % all the time). We decided to reinstall the VMware Tools, but with interactive installation way. After this one finished, CPU usage decrease to 60 % or even less. We decided to reinstall tools in the rest of the machines, and their performance was correct.

We tried to reinstall VMware tools from Powercli command Update-Tools -VM and from Update Manager again but CPU Usage was high. Only interactive installation fixed the performance issues.

Does anybody have found this issue?

It seems VMware Tools installation process from Update Manager or Powercli missing something.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards.
