After running backups for several hours a vmnic just stops passing network traffic. The problem has been isolated down by connecting one vmnic to a vswitch. The virtual server being backed up has a private vlan backup nic which is patched to the vswitch along with a test server. After several hours and many terabytes, the running backup job stops and the remaining backup jobs on the physical Netbackup server fail with a network disconnect error. Once failed the VMs connected to the vswitch can ping each other but cannot ping out the vmnic. Likewise nothing from the physical world can ping the VMs. The ESX hardware is an HP BL460c G7 blade with ethernet passthru from the onboard Emulex NICs and a Broadcomm mezzanine NIC. All the hardware has updated and HCL compatible firmware and drivers. Looking for troubleshooting ideas.
