We are doing a storage array refresh. We want to keep the vCenter and vCOps log files and not lose them. I am not sure the solution to attain that piece.
1. Back-end storage LUN to LUN copy
Pros - Keeps logs, vswitch configs, storage configs, license info (vcenter / powerpath), etc.
Cons - ?
2. Rebuild new ESXi host on new LUN on new array
Pros - clean install, all identical
Cons - Loss of log files, have to rebuild configs from scratch (networking, storage, licensing, etc.)
3. Are there other options?
If we were to go with option 2, how would I import the log files back into the ESXi Host if I decide to rebuild?
Am I missing any pros and cons?
Any help would be appreciated.
