ESXI 5 and win server 2008 r2 - network setup

I made a fresh install of win server 2008 r2 enterprise on esxi 5. I am a linux person new to the windows world..

I went to Local Area Connection Properties and setup IPv4( IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS server address) what is next? I still cant connect to the internet. My Linux VM works just fine after providing the same network information besides for IP addresses(different IP for each VM).

I am not sure what the preferred IP address is about, the duplicate is the actual IP I assigned to the server..

1. Why am I getting this random IP for preferred IP? how to switch to the duplicate as shown in the link above.

2. What else needs to be done, after local area connection properties.
