Transferring image

Hi,

There is an image of a vm in another network (office network) that I need to transfer to my office network. Actually it's the same office, but in 2 different locations, therefore this means in 2 different subnets.

How do I transfer an image from one subnet to the other?

Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file

Hello, I have performed a P2V on a Windows Server 2003 server for the purpose of in-place upgrade to Windows Server 2008. The P2V went fine, it boots and works as expected.  but after the in-place upgrade I am getting an error about digital signature on symmpi.sys.  If I hit F8 and disable digital signature enforcement, the server will boot as normal.  I have since upgraded VMware tools.  searches lead me to believe its related to an LSI logic adapter.  I have already cleaned out ghost items from my device manager with the devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices = 1 enabled.    as far as I know I have the latest driver for the storage controller since I cannot find an upgrade for it.  I tried to change it from LSI Logic parallel to LSI Logic SAS but then the server will not boot.  I can see the device under "Non-plug and Play Drivers" in device manager, but I must enable hidden devices.  the device is not greyed out which indicates that it somehow still thinks the device exists.  when I choose option to uninstall, it appears that it does not really uninstall anything and the problem persists.  any assistance appreciated.

thanks,

When I install ViewAgent on a VM, it does not prompt Connection Server address

Hi, I'm evaluating ESXi 5.1.

I setup several VMs in EXSi 5.1; There is also a domain controller;

I installed connection server on Windows Server 2008 R2, which is joined to the domain. VM and connection server are in the same domain. they can ping each other.

However I don't want to use View Composer.

When I install View Agent in the VM, the installer does not ask for connection server address.

It just ask me to select  components I want to install then I click next it starts installing.

On the connection server I tried to create a manual pool and add this VM but can't see the VM.

If I run the same setup package on a physical machine it will ask for connection server address like this:

345374_1318245444iq6s.jpg

So my question is, how can I install VMWare View Agent in VM and provide connection server address? Thank you very much.

Connection Server and View Agent version number are 5.1.2-928164

svMotion performance

We're currently a NetApp 7-mode shop and have been testing Tintri, Pure and XIO. Today I noticed an interesting issue, sVmotion to NFS datastores on NetApp and Tintri get 300 to 350MB/s throughput, but NFS or iSCSI datastores to iSCSI on Pure and XtremIO only get 100MB/s to 150MB/s. I'm at a loss to explain why this would be the case. The iSCSI array all have MPIO configured, etc. and the vendors agree they are configured according to their best practice for all SATP/PSP/advanced settings. Confirmed no bandwidth issues on the switch ports across all systems, no network errors. Performance for regular VM activity has no issues.

Here are the run times for the same VM moved between different datastores.

Keeping VM MAC addresses when moving a VM from one ESXI host to another?

$

I'm having trouble with MAC addresses.  I am moving VMs from one ESXI host to another one (upgraded machine).  Unfortunately, software licenses are tied to the MAC addresses on the VMs, and I can't seem to move the MACs.

I have documented the MAC addresses, and have tried to statically set them, however, ESXI complains that they are not allowed because they overlap with VMWare's reserved MAC addresses.  Which, yes, I know that.

Is there any override, or anything else I'm missing.  Obviously the OUI portion of the MAC is the same on both boxes, but the host portion is being changed and I need it not to because my licenses inside the VM will not work.

Thanks in advance!

Trouble with ESXi 5.1/5.5 on Z820

Hi all,

I have an HP Z820 I am trying to load ESXi 5.1 or 5.5 on. There are a few problems I am having.

First, I run into trouble during the install. It says virutalization is not supported or not enabled. It is enabled. Not sure why it is complaining.

Second, I have two on-board NICs and it only sees NIC0. I need both for my setup.

I have been fight this thing for a few days now and need some help. Thanks in advance!

Upgrade ESXi 5.1 to 5.5 - Should I use customized ISO ?

$

Hi,

We are using both DELL and HP servers running vSphere.

When we upgrade from ESXi 5.1 to ESXi 5.5, can we download the ISO image from VMware and use Update Manager to upgrade OR it is desirable to download customized ISO image from both DELL and HP for upgrade ?

If customized ISO is preferred, just wonder whether those Hardware vendors have different ISO for different model of servers ?  (Some of our servers have been 5 years old).

Thanks

Wake on LAN not supported for DPM brand new HP Blades

We have bought some new HP blades - BL460c G9 with Emulex HP FlexFabric 20Gb 2-port 650FLB Adapters and were disappointed to see that Wake on LAN was not supported according to vSphere so I cannot use DPM.

I've enabled WOL in the BIOS, the cards support WOL: does anyone have an idea why is vSphere saying it isn't?

Our old kit shows up as WOL supported - these are BL460c G7s with Emulex HP NS553i Dual Port FlexFabric 10Gb Converged Network Adapters.

Hello,

We have 8 ESXi 5.5 hosts and I've just checked the sdrsinjector.log on each and they all list a single issue with a volume, but each host lists a different volume.  So one different volume per hosts is logged like below, what does it mean?

downgrade virtual hardware in vm

I need to change virtual hardware 10 to 8 for specific virtual machine in ESXi 5.5 environment, so I read in knowledge base it's necessary to recreate new vm and to link the existing disk (vmdk file)

Can I manually change configuration of some files to reach this scope?

Memory question

Hello All,

If I have 2 host with 16GB of RAM and I build 2 VMs on each host with 8GB of RAM, but both VM's are turned but are pretty much idle, no apps are running, they are actually only consuming 2 GB of RAM each.

In the Cluster view, hosts , my 2 ESXI hosts show %memory at almost 100%

Is that normal being that the VMs are pretty much idle? Is it because ESXI is guaranteeing the memory. Please note no limits or shares have been configures.

Thank you

I don't know what happened. I upgraded from 5.5u1 to 5.5u2 only so that I could get the Client Integration Plugin working with Firefox on a Mac. Ever since then the stupid thing no longer works on Chrome with a Mac and the Client Integration Plugin will not install on 2012r2 or w8.1 with Chrome or IE or Opera, it will however install with Firefox but the stupid Shockwave plugin freezes like crazy and makes me want to throw my laptop out the window.

It's so frustrating I'm considering Hyper-V. Is there something stupid I'm missing? I'm using Appliance Version 5.5.0.20500 Build 2646489 and using ESXi 5.5.0 Build 2403361.

I Googled for about two hours looking for this exact issue and could not find a thing but I'm sure I can't be the only one in this situation.

Beers on me and thank you very much to anyone who can point me to an easy fix.

LSI Megaraid Storage Manager doesn't work with LSI Provider

$

I am running ESXi 5.0 update 1, run as via the upgrade option to a running 5.0 stock ESXi install. I am using an LSI MegaRAID 9265-8i RAID card. As I am running update 1, it came with the 5.34-1 version of the MegaRAID driver, so I ignored the MegaRAID driver install step, and only installed the LSI Provider for ESXi.

I am able to view the health status within ESXi and see my disks. However, the MegaRAID storage manager doesn't work. It appears as though the listener for port 3071 is not running on the ESXi host (as verified with esxcli network ip connections list). I have tried with the firewall unloaded as well as with turning on the firewall option for the VM serial as it appears to almost disable the firewall. The only difference is MSM returns instantly as there is no listener running rather than having the firewall drop the packets.

I am thinking that the LSI provider did not install properly. There are some error messages regarding sfcb and LSIESG access denied in the Vmkaccess log. I do not know what sfcb really is, but it looks like there's perhaps an access control problem with starting part of the LSI management program on the ESXi host.

I can provide more information tonight. Any help is welcome.

Thanks.

vSphere Web Client SUCKs so bad that my experience managing and supporting VMware has turn to SH**!

Yes - that's what I said - this has gone far enough and its time the user community took a stand to let VMware know how horrible the web client is, it is tantamount to my worst user interface experience in 20 years of IT.

Attention VMware - this is really simple - all the money you wasted developing this could have been spent in other areas.  you are forcing GARBAGE on your customer base, and for that you will eventually crash and burn, its only a matter of time.  Hasn't the thousands upon thousands of posts about this sunk in yet??  Hello?

Purpose of this post is simple and obvious...  please refrain from your A** kissing pitch about cloud this and that... don't need to hear it.    and I could care less about managing a complex infrastructure from an android or ipad, its ridiculous to expect someone to squeeze the mountains of information that needs to be at your finger tips quickly to efficiently manage a VMware infrastructure on a tiny screen...

If I wasn't totally pissed off with having to use this client I wouldn't have posted this VENTING..

Running OS X 10.10 Yosemite on ESXi 5.5

$

So I've read article after article about running OS X 10.9 on ESXi, but until recently hadn't seen any guidance on how to run 10.10. Then I saw an article that guided you through installing OS X 10.10 on VMWare Fusion by first downgrading the OS Selection from 10.10 to 10.9, then changing the compatibility to use Hardware Version 10 from 11, so that you could later upload the newly created VM to your ESXi 5.5 Server, and make a few modification including adding back in the config line smc.present = "TRUE", and voila, everything should magically work. But I've been stuck for a number of days now.

I tried the above steps, but every time I try to run the VM, I just get the grey VMWare boot loader screen that says failed to load operating system from SATA dis, then failed CDRom, then attempting network, then eventually failing completely. I even read up more on what people did on 10.9 and found another couple of config strings such as:

   smc.present = "TRUE"

   smbios.reflectHost = "TRUE"

    ich7m.present = "TRUE"

Once again, overtime I've made a change and tried it I'm left with the same exact outcome. Failure. Am I supposed to also have installed the ESXi unlocker script? Because I tried that earlier as well with no luck either, so I figured maybe I should be attempting this install without it, and re-installed the host OS without making any changes.

My config is as follows. Dell PowerEdge R610 with two Hex core 2.8Ghz Xeon Processors, 64GB memory and 6 148GB SAS drives So performance is definitely not an issue. I even have a Sinology ISCSI LUN created and attached with 4TB Storage.

Can Anyone help? Has anyone else successfully installed and is running OS X 10.10 on your ESXi 5.5 server? Mind you, I'm running the free version, so maybe theres limitations there also that I'm unaware of. But any and all advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

I am looking to identify a user associated with some recent VM file copies. These were direct file downloads from the datastore. I've been poking around some logs but unable to find any record of these types of transactions. Does anyone know if this information is logged and if so, to which log?
