esx.problem.scsi.device.io.latency.high.category not found

HI all,

I have a HP gen 8  server with esxi 5.5 Update2.

After  replace the raid driver (B120I) to older version 5.5.0.88, the esxi start appear the following error logs.

XXX esx.problem.scsi.device.io.latency.high.category not found XXX

XXX esx.clear.scsi.device.io.latency.improved.formatOnHost not found XXX

XXX esx.problem.scsi.device.io.latency.high.formatOnHost not found XXX

XXX esx.problem.scsi.device.io.latency.high.category not found XXX

XXX esx.audit.net.firewall.config.changed.formatOnHost not found XXX

XXX esx.audit.net.firewall.config.changed.category not found XXX

So far the ESXI  host and VM guest still works fine.

But I want to know what's going on.

What does the "xxxxx category not found" means?

I can't find any answer on internet.

Any ideas?

Thank You

Guest Dropped Packets (Received) ?

We have noticed that our new monitoring server (n-central) which checks all of our vmware esxi 4.x & 5.x servers, complains that the threshold for "Guest Dropped Packets (Received)" on our virtual machines has failed. Our vmware servers seem to be running OK, just a little concerned what this service status shows.

Any ideas? Thanks, Oliver

ESXi 5.5 stops working (freeze), network connection lost, no keyboard interaction possible, but no PSOD

Hi everybody,

I need some suggestions, because I have no idea anymore:

My Esxi suddenly stops working. I have to completely restart the hardware machine. No keyboard interaction is possible more, the NICs are gone - nothing. Hardware (certified):

1xIntel Xeon 4-Core E3-1220V3 3.1GHz 8MB

1x Adaptec 8805 SAS3 8x internal

1x Asus Motherboard P9D-MV

5x 2 TB SATA III WD Raid Edition 3.5" 7.2k

Before every "freeze" this shows up in the logs:

2016-03-11T13:20:06.260Z cpu3:32788)WARNING: NMP: nmp_DeviceRequestFastDeviceProbe:237: NMP device "mpx.vmhba1:C3:T0:L0" state in doubt; requested fast path sta

Nothing follows in the logs until the reboot begins.

Does anyone have an idea what this means? There are only rare information to find with google and no information regarding this special problem. Does anyone have an idea how I can track down which device "0x4108b87f5630" is?

I already updated to the lates ESXi 6, but the problem persists. I started it in 5, because it came up with 5.5. The first time the problem occurs was during the restart of a windows server 2013 R2 guest. I tried to find out, if the guest causes the error, but the error comes up also when the guest is down.

I appreciate any help! Thanks in advance.

Marius

// Edit:

Unfortunatley I have to correct myself. It seems, that some hardware is not certified - The system was running for so long, that I have it mistaken for another system. Nevertheless I appreciate help

ESXi 5.5 vShield Endpoint Blue Screen Issues.

Hello,

Has anyone else dealt with the following issue or know of a workaround? We have this exact issue in our production environment and have had to revert from using vshield endpoint antivirus. I noticed the Resolution has changed from "no workaround" to "contact vmware support" Unfortunately they will not speak to me because I don't have an active support contract with vmware directly.

VMware KB: Windows virtual machine installed with vShield Endpoint Thin Agent (vsepflt.sys) and vShield Endpoint TDI…

Any information appreciated!

Hello Gurus,

Offlate i noticed an event log entry in vSphere client twice in short span of less than a day related to local storage as follows:

Lost access to volume

4f4c8bc0-4d13eab8-c8fc-5cf3fc09c3fa (vms-1)

due to connectivity issues. Recovery attempt is in

progress and outcome will be reported shortly.

info

and immediately

Successfully restored access to volume 4f4c8bc0-

connectivity issues.

info

The event details itself recommends "Ask VMware" link leads to VMware KB: Host Connectivity Degraded

and

this VMware KB: Host Connectivity Restored

As per the KB VMware is referring to SAN LUN, but in our case its the local storage, kindly shed some info as to why the local storage would lost its connectivity.

Note: all the local disk are on RAID-10.

ESXi 5.x on an Intel J1900 board (Q1900-ITX Asrock) issue

$

Hello everyone!

I have been trying to install ESXi 5.1u1 & 5.1u2 & 5.5u1 on the following configuration to no success so far:

Asrock Q1900-ITX mobo (Intel J1900 Baytrail SoC, BIOS 1.20 with VT-x support)

8GB RAM Kingston

120GB OCZ Vector 150 (tried to connect on both SATA2.0 and SATA3.0)

Intel CT1000 NIC

Bootable 4GB FAT32 USB stick with an extracted installation (using Unetbootin) (tried to connect on both USB2.0 and USB3.0)

ESXi 5.1uX results in/stops at a black window/screen after the "Relocating modules and starting the kernel" message.

ESXi 5.5u1 starts loading the modules and stops/freezes right after the "Relocating modules and starting the kernel" message.

I have tried in the bios:

- Boot USB legacy

- Boot USB UEFI

- Disabled PXE (both NICs)

- Video memory to a minimum (64MB)

- Disabled onboard audio & NIC

- I have tried (unofficial?) inserting drivers into the installation ISO (NIC/microcode/xahci) from v-front.de.

I know that most/all of my hardware is not on the HCL, which doesn't mean it can't work, of course (like my old system).

All to no luck so far. However I successfully installed Proxmox hypervisor on this system. Others successfully installed NAS4Free (FreeBSD) or Ubuntu/Debian.

But I want ESXi 5.x for my home server, like I have on my old Intel D525 with a max of 4GB and OCZ Vertex 2 SSD (ESXi 5.1u2).

Maybe someone has some tips or advice to install ESXi 5.x on my new system?

Have to remove and re-add NFS datastore after VMs start failing with read/write errors.

We have an issue where some of our VMWare esxi guests that are running from datastore on a Qnap NFS mount stop workinging after awhile.  Their seem to be issues with writing and corruption.  I tried rebooting the Qnaps and that didn't help.  However, if I remove the VMWare datastore that points to the Qnap NFS mount, and then re-add it, then everything starts working again for a while.

Any thoughts or solutions would be appreciated.  Thanks!

unable to power on x32 VM with FT enabled ~~ VMware Workstation

Hi All,

I am running my lab in VMware Workstation 12. I have created an ESXi on which I have created a x32 VM running windows server 2003.

I followed many articles and they all suggested to enabled below settings on the x32 VM

replay.supported = "true"

replay.allowFT = "true"

replay.allowBTOnly = "true"

I have enabled the settings. When the x32 VM is powered down I am able to enable FT. However I try to power on the x32 VM it returns an error Binary translation with Record/Replay is not supported for this guest

I did google and everyone talks about the above three settings. Any help here please.

Thanks

Auto Startup/Shutdown VMs on Power Loss

$

Hello! I know this has been covered before (and I've read those documents/threads/etc.), but I'm still having issues. Forgive my ignorance!

So far I've enabled it as so:

Capture1.PNG

But the VMs under "Automatic Startup" still aren't auto-starting. I then found that HA can be a factor (if it's enabled, you can't auto-startup/shutdown VMs). However, it's currently in a N/A state:

Capture2.PNG

Each VM has this same N/A state as well (and VM Tools are installed on all of them, if that matters). I also don't have any Clusters or anything listed under home, so I can't figure out where to truly disable HA:

Hi,

We are running ESXi 5.5 u3 on BL460c Gen9.

Occasionally we see a warning "HP Server WBEM Indication" in the alarms tab on the hosts.

To fix it, we restart the CIM server service on the host.

Do you know this is happening?

VMWare VM with a passthrough NIC is not scaling

$

Hello,

Greetings. I've a standalone ESX host running on ESX5.5 version. And I've a two Intel's 10Gig Network card in the host. When I try

1. Created a Virtual switch with one of the 10G connected in it. A VM with VSwitch NIC - setup A.

2. Configured the other 10G NIC as a passthrough NIC. And created a VM with a PCI Device ( passthrough NIC )  - Setup B

In the setup(2)  I can see NIC driver ixgbe is loaded in the VM. Am sending the data to the application running in both the setup. And I expect high performance in the passthrough mode than VSwitch setup. But unfortunately I see less number of connections/sec in the passthrough mode than VSwitch setup. When the application is loaded I tried to monitor the esxtop data on the ESXi host. And i could see one of the PCPU is 100% ( PCPU varies, but only one at a time ). And the corresponding VM is in the top which high %of used.

Could anyone shed some lights why my PCI Passthrough is not scaling well? Is there any tuning I should do?

RRAS in Windows 2012

$

Hello friends,

I have a problem that I believe specifically with VMware environment.

my vmware scenario:

- Esxi 5.5 U2 server;

- A virtual switch for management

- Vnic1 untagged vlan; (Vmxnet3)

- A virtual switch to production network

- Vnic2 untagged vlan - network servers; (Vmxnet3)

- Vnic3 1000 vlan tag - workstation network; (Vmxnet3)

My scenario of virtual machines:

- Windows server 2012 r2 with RRAS for vpn access standard

- Vnic2 untagged vlan - network servers; (Vmxnet3) - Published NAT for PPTP connection

- Vnic3 1000 vlan tag - workstation network; (Vmxnet3)

What happens?

The users typically connect to the VPN, receive the IP workstation network (vnic3) perfectly and everything works.

However, after a few minutes and sometimes a few moments, the connection with the vpn continues estabelecidade but lost access to the VPN network.

Disconnect and connect again, everything returns to normal. But then we lose access again.

We have the impression that the RRAS loses routing VPN connection.

Has anyone seen this?

Thank you.

SSH root access denied while SSH for other administrative user is granted

Good day. HP custom ESXi 5.5u3.

It was ok with SSH access for root user until recently. But then I have created other administrative user (granted him role "Administrator" for the host) and set "no access" permissions to root user for some vms BUT not for the host. Now other user can login to ESXi via SSH with no problem and root is getting message "access denied", however root still can login to ESXi via viclient. If I set back root permissions to "Administrator" for all vms, then root can login to ESXi via SSH again.

auth.log:

2016-03-14T04:35:48Z sshd[4350907]: pam_access(sshd:auth): access denied for user `root' from `x.x.x.x'

sshd_config:

PermitRootLogin yes

Look at the screenshot

Any thoughts?
