any idea?
Hi Friends,
We have Linux API appliances running on ESXi 5.5 and using Netbackup 7.5 for snapshot level backups, But whenever we restored VM by using existing snapshot backup, every time MAC address is getting changed.
Is this a normal behavior or we can change anything to restore with same MAC address ?
Also just a note that we are not looking to change MAC address manually after restoring the VM.
Thankq.
Hi.
I've P2V a running Windows server 2003 machine by means VMWare Converter
When I start the converted VM on VMWare workstation 12.x, I see this
If I choose yes (or not) the VM start without problem.
The questions are:
Thanks in advance
I need to expand a 2 TB volume (D drive) current full and have data in it to a dynamic disk
Will there be an issue changing it from basic disk to dynamic and adding 200 gb to this volume?
Hi,
We have one cluster with:
- 5 ESXi 5.5u3 Dell R730 / R630 with E5-2687W v3 and E5-2697 v3 processors.
- vCenter 6 (build 3339084)
When i choose EVC on cluster with "Intel Haswell Generation", I get the followingerror for all hosts:
The host's CPU hardware should support the cluster's current Enhanced vMotion Compatibility mode, but some of the necessary CPU features are missing from the host.
Check the host's BIOS configuration to ensure that no necessary features are disabled (such as XD, VT, AES, or PCLMULQDQ for Intel, or NX for AMD). For more information, see KB articles 1003212 and 1034926.
In Bios i have this settings:
Which settings I missed?
Thank you
Hello,
I'm currently using many servers with free edition of VMWare ESXi 5.
So now, I want to use more RAM and want to have more tools like backup, clone tool.
I have read a lot in vmware site but it makes me a bit confuse.
Can someone clarify this for me:
1. What do I need to do after order "VMware vSphere Essentials Kit" which allows me to manage 3 physical servers while I'm using "VMware vSphere Client" free edition?
2. Do I need to change or have some action with "VMware vSphere Hypervisor"?
3. The fee of $495, is a lifetime fee, or this is annual fee? The subscription is required first year only, is that right?
4. "VMware vSphere Essentials Kit" supports up to 192GB of RAM per Physical server and max of 32GB of RAM per Virtual Machine?
5. What's difference with "VMware vSphere Standard" edition?
This is some links I have read:

Thank you very much!

Hi,
I manually copied a vmdk file from local system to datastore, then edited *.vmx file of existing VM and changed name vmdk file to my coped file.
But, after that I could not start the VM and getting following errors
Module DevicePowerOn power on failed.
Unable to create virtual SCSI device for scsi0:0, '/vmfs/volumes/501d2d81-855b9cce-e103-00177c108b21/testdsk/vcentermain.vmdk'

Thanks,
I would like to connect an usb harddisk to an esxi host. It is possible to present the usb disk to a guest with the usb device. But I would like to present the usb disk to the host and use it as a datastore.
Are there any of you out there who has been trying that ?
Hi guys, I have a very large snapshot on a 3tb storage server in the order of 900GB currently
It was about 540gb when I discovered it and to try and ensure no loss I initiated a cloned the system (kinda easier than dealing with our backup system), which of course created another snapshot.
Tomorrow ill be okay to stop the cloning as the last few discs on the VM are not essential. The issue im now facing is that the snapshot for the clone will now in the order of 4-500gb by itself.
I really need this VM to stay up and not lock up when this snap gets removed (when I cancel the cloning operation), is there a way of cancelling the clone operation but keeping the snapshot?
Hello,
I've a vSphere cluster running with 7x IBM HS22V blades / 2x Intel Xeon X3650 / 256 GB memory in every host.
Running at vSphere 5.5 23202651, with around 150 VM's.
Since a few months we are implementing Windows Server 2012 R2, and since a few weeks we've a new Citrix environment running at 2012 R2 to.
Currently the performance of the Windows Server 2012 machines is really really bad.
The respond slow and it doesn't feel right, the older VM's (W2K8 R2) are running great.
I've searched the internet, and I found that a lot of people had/have problems running 2012 on vSphere.
But I didn't found any solutions or things I could try to solve our problems.
Hopefully you guys have some tips for me, because I'm stuck...
Thanks in advance!
Best regards,
DXK

Hi,
I powered off my server, when powering back up it claims I don't have the correct license for my servers.
Error message "Feature vsmp not licensed, requires 16 have 8"
I have not done any other changes to the server.
Server details:
HP Proliant DL380 G6

Processors cores per socket: 6
Logical processors: 24
Hyperthreading: Enabled
Details for license:
Product: VMware vSphere 5 Hypervisor Licensed for 2 physical CPUs (unlimited cores per CPU)

Anyone else had this problem?
If I change the settings and lower the CPU's the server starts.
Any help would be appreciated :-)
We are going through doing some cleanup on our datastores. So we are sVmotioning VMs off some datastores then deleting the LUNs.
For every datastore we are cleaning up there about 3 out of 16 hosts won't unmount the datastore. It is not always the same 3 hosts it varies.
The error that is occurring indicates that the file system is busy.
Cannot unmount volume 'Datastore Name: Hosted_FC_LUN70 VMFS uuid: 5202965c-e09a124d-9e1b-001a64c85540' because file system is busy. Correct the problem and retry the operation.
But there are not anything on the datastore in use. All VMs have been migrated off, the datastore is not used for heartbeat, vsantraced is disabled, SIOC is disabled, it is not apart of a datastore cluster, and the coredumps have all been cleared.

I also ran lsof and could not find any files in use on that LUN. I have also tried unmounting them from the command line and by connecting to the hosts directly with the vsphere client.
Right now the only resolution has been to reboot the hosts that are having a problem. Although this is getting to be quite annoying considering I have 30 datastores to cleanup and cannot continue on the next datastore until the one I'm working on is completely unmounted and then re-purposed.
We also have very strict rules regarding host reboots and they can only be performed in the evening. So I am looking at a month before all the cleanup can be finished in our current state.
These datastores I'm cleaning up are either VMFS3 or VMFS 5.54.
Does anyone have any ideas on why these won't unmount?
Hello,
I have a server with ESXi and two virtual machine. They have been running correctly for one year and a half and there was not any error. Three months ago, one of the virtual machine stopped and I had to shutdown the full physical machine and start it again to restart the both virtual machine and they ran correctly. Now, I have again the same problem. All the datastore are saved into physical hard disk into the physical server machine. Which could be the problem? Could be a hard disk physical error? The errors that gave the VMware ESXi were the following:
- Device or filesystem with identifier HardDiskID has entered the All Paths Down state. Warning 03/01/2017 1:08:30
- Lost connectivity to storage device HardDiskID. Path vmhba33:C0:T0:L0 is down, Affected datastore: DatastoreName Error 03/01/2017 1:08:30
- Lost access of volume VolumeID due to connectivity issues. Recovery attempt is in progress and outcome will be reported shortly. Info 03/01/2017 1:08:30
- Device or filesystem with identifier HardDiskID has entered the All Paths Down Timeout state after being in the All Paths Down state for 140 seconds. I/Os will be fast failed. Warning 03/01/2017 1:10:50
- Error message on VirtualMachineName: NVRAM: write failed. Error 03/01/2017 1:11:51
Thank you.

Hi folks,
I need to add a new 100GB hard disk to a VM that is protected by vSphere based replication.
It's currently paused because it detected that I added a new hard disk.
Is it just a matter of running the reconfigure to include the new disk as protected?
No other changes on the recovery site?
Thanks,
romatlo
Ciao a tutti, sto usando la versione free di esxi 5.5 e avrei necessità di spostare alcune macchine virtuali su altro datastore locale,
è possibile?
grazie
Hi Folks,
It may be the old topic but couldn't get what I needed. We have two hardware iSCSI ports in ESXi box. We have created two VMkernel port group each with single physical NIC and mapped it to each hardware iSCSI under network configuration. Could not find anything better from VMware documentations. In this way i believe it is only active/passive. Is there any better configuration we can do to improve the throughput?
