Hi
I have a very difficult question. What are the best hardware components to build a high performance vSphere infrastructure? The focus is here on the server hardware, because the storage infrastructure is given (EMC v-MAX). And i also know it's a little "religion" and everyone has another favorite, but i'm looking for pro/cons of the components.
Server Type: Blade or Rack?
Manufacturer: HP, IBM, Cisco......other?
CPUs: Intel / AMD - is Intel Hyperthreading importent?
Sockets: 2, 4, 8....
Cores vs. Clockspeed: What's better, more Core's per Socket or more Speed per Core?
Memory: How much? more than 256 GBs more than 512GB?
NIC / HBA: 10Gbit/s Ethernet and 16 Gbit/s Fiber Channel - how much Ports? or 8 Gbit/s Fiber Channel but more Path?
Flash Cards: Is it worth something like a Fusion i/o Card?
The goal is not to build a infrastructure with a virtualization ratio of 1:1 - on each hardware-server must run a bunch (50 or more) VM's
I'm really looking forward to your opinions
Thanks for your help and ideas
