Greetings,
With the various discussions regarding the placement of a VM's swap file, and different views on this topic, and also discussions on how "swapping" is bad and when it occurs it means your VM is starving for memory, I wanted to get some clarification on the ways to monitor if a VM is "swapping" or not.
The reason for this I am attempting to make a decision on the best type of disk hardware to place the .vswp on. We do have access to solid state drives as well as fusion i/o hardware, but having a better understanding on a way to monitor this would help in making a clear decision. The host has a good amount of memory which allows me to dedicate a good amount of memory to each VM where I think there would not be any contention issues, so should I even be concerned?
Also, we have vCOPS Enterprise in our environment and that seems like a very powerful tools that could monitor and/or alert on if a VM is utilizing its swap file. However, I have not found much on this topic.
Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
