Virtual and physical bus sharing question

Per Vmware documentation for esxi 4....

Virtual bus sharing - Virtual disks can be shared by virtual machines on the same server.

Physical bus sharing- Virtual disks can be shared by virtual machines on any server.

What this means to me is that two VMs sharing the same disk via a shared virtual scsi bus MUST be on the same host.  Do I understand this correectly?  Has this changed in later versions?  My boss was able to power down a test vm with virtual bus sharing and move it to another host and power it on with no issues while the other VM sharing the disk stayed on the original host.

The reason I ask is we have a couple ms clusters in our esxi 5 environment.  Some are virtual shared and some are physical.  I need to patch the hosts and I want to move one of the VMs that has the virtual shared bus to a different host but I'm not sure if that is supported or ok.

Thanks in advance for any insight you can give.
